#157 Throw-Away Turtle (mostly)

The girls use plastic, disposable cutlery in their lunch bags for school.  They get a lot of mileage out of a $1 bag of cutlery (8 each of forks, knives and spoons) because we wash and reuse them.  They have been working on the purple ones for over a year now and are down to very little so I picked some pink ones up a while ago.  Add that to a plastic plate and little bowl and ta-da, a new turtle is born.  (The bowl is a keeper and the reason I added "mostly" to the title.)

#156 Breakfast Turtle

I made this one this morning because I knew that I would be distracted today.  So distracted that I forgot to post this after I took it!
Today is the last day of school for my thirteen year old, (her sister was done last week) and to celebrate all of them being "promoted to grade eight" she has a bunch of friends over.  Hubby and I will be starting the barbecue soon.

Here is my breakfast.  Sort of. I added an egg and rearranged the cheese before eating it.  :)

#155 Loggerback turtle

You may have heard of a loggerhead turtle and maybe even a leatherback turtle,  but I'll bet that the loggerback turtle is new to you.  Of course it is!  I just made it up tonight!
This afternoon/evening was spent moving the rack that holds all the firewood.  Even with four of us working on it, it took about three hours.  (Possibly because the girls spent almost as much time fooling around as they did helping... but they were entertaining.)
This is my turtle that reflects how the end of my day was spent.

#154 Turtle in a pickle

Turtle out of a pickle?  From a pickle?
I don't think this is quite what Misha had in mind, especially since she mentioned an olive head.  But this is my version.

#153 Chippy Turtle!

I would guess that it took about three seconds (after snapping this photo) for the vultures to swoop in!  At least these particular vultures had the courtesy to ask "Can I have a chip?????"
I ended up with the little chip on top and the fragments used for limbs.  *sigh*
Then, the vultures vanished as quickly as they came.
I think that what surprises me the most is that these vultures (13 & 17 year old girls) were satisfied with one chip each!

#152 Mini Marshmallow Turtle

What do I do when my daughter drops a couple marshmallows onto the floor?  Play with them before throwing them out!!!  Two mini marshmallows made a leap for freedom as my daughter tried to put them in her hot chocolate. (Yes, hot chocolate.  She drinks it all year round.  Actually, both of my daughters do.)  I had her set them aside for me since I hadn't made a turtle yet.

He probably wouldn't be able to swim very well with those oddly formed rear legs.

#151 Stuffed Turtle Number Two!

When I made a stuffed turtle two days ago, I couldn't decide on the colours to use.  I liked the sweet colours from Wednesday, but I liked this combination as well, even though the sparkly grey fabric is kind of stretchy.  So I have made both.  I think of this one as the more heavy metal cousin of Wednesday's turtle.

I gave this one a tag too.  :)

#150 Habitat

I needed a habitat for the bone turtle that I had given to me.  It has taken me a while, but I am finally done.

I think.

I made a little tree for it.
I'm not sure what I was thinking when I chose to use green wire, so I'll call this a moss covered tree trunk... Think anyone will believe me?

My little turtle is basking on a rock in a pond.  The pond is what took all the time to do.  A couple of weeks at least!

Here is the finished 'turtlearium'.
I need to find a different way to attach the turtle to the rock because you can see the sticky-tac.  I want something that won't damage my little turtle if I decide to dismantle this habitat.

#149 Stuffed Turtle

Back on June 4th, Atomic Rose from 365 SPIDERS sent me a suggestion with a link to make this cute little stuffed turtle.  2½ weeks later, I finally made one! I have a second one partially finished for another day too.

These are too cute. A little bigger than I was expecting, but I still love it.  I was going to give it bead eyes, but I think I like the 'blank' look.
I posed it with my penny so you can get an idea of the size.

I have little tags too.  I'm glad that the instructions reminded me to use one, otherwise I would have forgotten that I had them!

Thanks for thinking of me Amy and sending the link my way!

#148 Turtle Pouch

I spent most of the day on this silly thing.  I had problem after problem.  Mostly user-error.  I saw this tutorial today and wanted to make one.

The one in the tutorial was a little too busy for me, so I toned it down and added turtles to it.
Here is the main compartment.

My favourite part?  The secret pocket!  You didn't notice that in the first two photos did you?
I see a few threads that I missed.

I hope my turtle for tomorrow doesn't take this long.

#146 Ginkgo Turtle

We have a beautiful ginkgo tree in the back yard.  My mom grew it from a seed (we bought the house from my parents when they decided to move out of the city).  I just love the shape of the leaves.  This evening as I was hanging out with Hubby while he barbecued dinner (HIS choice!  I know it is Father's Day) I saw a turtle shell in the leaves.  We had a storm not too long ago and there are quite a few leaves lying in the grass so I didn't even have to pull any off the tree to make these.

This was the turtle shell I had envisioned:

Hubby was a little surprised when he saw what I was doing because when I said I saw a turtle shell in the leaves, he envisioned something more like a turtle swimming toward me.  At least, I think this is what he was describing:

# 145 Best packaging EVER

I wanted to get gummy fruit slices and gummy fruit to make a treat.  The amazing packaging was a bonus.  Or maybe it is some kind of turtley sign.....

I needed them to make these.  We are going to a grown-up birthday party today and they specified NO gifts.  Well, I don't want to go completely empty handed so I made these for their kids.  They can't say 'no' if we brought something for their children!

Today I made magnets using my squashed marbles.  The turtle pictures didn't show up as nicely as I had wanted, but I still think that they are cute.

#142 Appreciated Turtle

:)

I used to help out at the girls' elementary school A LOT.  Now that my youngest is nearly done grade seven, I don't help out as much.  But I still help out!  Today was "Volunteer Appreciation" and we were invited for a little treat as the school's way of saying thank you to us for all of our valuable help throughout the school year.

We had to decide what we wanted first.  A piece of chocolate cake, or some really good (even if it wasn't spiked) punch.  (I had some punch, then some cake, then some more punch)

They even gave us a little gift of a journal and a gel pen.
It was a nice hour.  :)

#141 'Squashed Marble' fun

My original plan for today was to make a magnet or two using these things I call squashed marbles.  But I got sidetracked and made this little guy instead.

And a bird's eye view.

#140 Hot Glue Turtle

I was wondering if this would work.  I wanted to make a crystal-y looking turtle using a clear 'squashed marble' and some hot glue.
Now I know that it kind of works.  The glue dries (cools?) to more of a white colour than clear.  But it still worked pretty well!

#139 Rhubarb Turtle

Today I picked, cleaned and cut up rhubarb.  It is currently spread out on trays in my freezer.  Tomorrow it will be packaged in bags in measured amounts.  These pieces are in there somewhere!

#138 Y.A.Y. Turtle

Wayyyyyyy back in 1986, I joined a group called Youth Assisting Youth (YAY).  YAY is a peer mentoring organization.  The commitment is a year, but my "little sister" and I have stayed in contact.  When the annual picnic came along this year, I went and brought my kids.  I hadn't been to a YAY picnic for over ten years (not counting last year when Hubby and I crashed it right at the end to say hello to people)  I decided to draw a turtle on my 'passport', thanks to a suggestion from my oldest daughter.

#137 Bubble Turtle

This turtle looks wayyyyyy better "in person" than it does in a photo.  I'm actually rather disappointed in the quality of the photos but there isn't anything I can do about it now.  In reality, this turtle had a great shape.  In the photo, it looks pretty much like a shapeless blob.   :(
I picniked eyes onto it so hopefully you ca see the turtle somewhat.

#136 Air Turtle

I ordered something from amazon the other day and it came today with these air baggies so I formed them into a turtle and drew eyes on it.  Hubby 'caught' me and rolled his eyes and shook his head.  hahahaha!

Questions

This isn't my turtle post but a question to others using Blogger.
I can't comment any more.  Not on my own pages or on other people's blogs.  It just takes me to an endless loop of typing in the security phrase and signing in.  I looked on Blogger and they claim that it is a "known issue" but it isn't fixed yet.  At least not for me.  A couple of times I have been able to empty my temporary folders and delete my cookies and comment for the day, but then it goes back to not letting me.  Now clearing out the folders doesn't even help.
Today I tried logging in to Blogger using a different computer and everything worked just fine!  So now I am wondering if I am missing something in my own personal settings. My internet settings were recently reset to default.  (Internet Explorer 9 -up to date-  and Windows Vista)  I don't believe I have changed anything since the reset other than updating my home page tabs.   I do not want a new browser.

Edited to update:
I tried Google again and found something about  allowing third party cookies. (huh?)   So I checked my settings and set blogger to "always allow" and now I can comment.   I'm not going to delete this post though because this may just be a temporary fix just like clearing things out was.
Now I am going back to comment on people's posts that I couldn't comment on before!!

I'm kind of hoping that one of you has heard of this and knows how to fix it.    Please!

#135 Eclipse

Movies are not as good as the books that they are made from.  The first two Twilight movies are no exception.  I absolutely LOVED the books and I was rather disappointed in the movies.  However, that isn't stopping me from watching Eclipse (probably) tonight.  I didn't want to pay to see it after being disappointed in the others so we've been waiting for the library to have it in.  You can't reserve movies for the first 6 months that the library has them, it is a first-come-first-served basis.  My daughter just happened to be there today while the movie was in, so she scooped it.  Here's hoping that it is okay!

Harry Potter, on the other hand, while again not as good as the books, is awesome and is something I am looking very forward to.  My oldest has a countdown to it's release date on the fridge.  37 days, if you were wondering! Pin It

#134 Concert for the Turtles

Lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky little turtles!!!  They got to go to a Bon Jovi concert.  *swoon*

I have a gigantic crush on Jon Bon Jovi.  I am super lucky because when I discovered that this action figure existed my husband actually sought one out and bought it for me.  Just because I wanted it.  Not online either.  Hubby actually carried Jon to the counter and paid for him in person.

I was looking at it the other day and thought it might make a fun photo.  I get these ideas that seem quick and painless in my head, but actually take more planning and effort than I ever realized to execute.  I have much more respect for professional photographers now that I have started theis 365 project.

I made a turtle out of lip gloss on my hand today.  Unlike Heidi, I had no trouble removing it afterward though!

#132 Ummmm.. MS Paint Turtle, kinda

For some, drawing something, anything on MS Paint is probably quick and easy.  This took me forever.  I guess I am better at beading and sewing than I am at computer pictures.
But here it is.

#131 Skull Appreciation Turtle

Even though I am not a "skull person", I have made a skull turtle in honour of the very first 'Skull Appreciation Day' since Noah Scalin's skull-a-day project is what inspired me in the first place.

#130 Washer Turtle

I went to the workshop with Hubby this evening and found a goldmine of washers!  He had been using them for a project he is working on and had them all out on the workbench.  I made this little guy and left him there for Hubby.

Here is more of a side view to show how I tried to make the shell kind of three dimensional.

#128 University...

My oldest daughter will be graduating from highschool in a few weeks.  She applied to three different university programs and got offers of acceptance from all three.  A couple days ago she accepted one of them which means my little girl is going to university in September!
It seems like she was just a baby a short time ago.  I am terribly proud of her.  She has worked hard in school to get excellent marks (and has been rewarded with a bit of scholarship money!) and fully deserves all of her success.  Hubby and I have never had to make her do schoolwork, everything she has achieved scholastically has been 100% her own decision and effort.  (Thankfully, it would appear that her younger sister has the same ethics and desire!)

So this turtle is a little doodle I made with my feelings in it.

If you can't read my chicken-scratch...
It's eye is a dollar sign.
His mouth is the words "bus fare".
His head says "scholarships are good but get a job!"
His shell says "A university-bound 17 year old daughter makes Mommy feel very old but also very very proud.  CONGRATULATIONS!"
One foot says "five years" (that is how long the program is)
The other foot says "teaching program"
His tail says "tuition" Pin It
