#248 nail polish attempt

Wow.  I've lost my touch.  First off, this nail polish colour is way too LOUD for me.  Second, I didn't do the best job on my one-shot turtle.

Well, they can't all be winners....  It is supposed to look like it is swimming off the tip of my nail.
(It's okay, you can laugh.  I am!)

Sorry about the glare by(on?) it's head.  I took about five or six pictures and this was the best one. Pin It

#247 Giant "Squashed Marble" Magnet

If you've been following me, you may have noticed that I really like what I refer to as squashed marbles.  Today I stumbled across extra large ones!!!!!  So, now I have a new fridge magnet!  I don't know what I am going to do if we ever get a stainless steel fridge.  I'm told that they aren't magnetic!

The only thing that I don't like about these is that they distort my pictures a bit.  But I'm already over that.
Here is my new "cottage turtle" magnet:

And here it is beside the regular sized squashed marbles.  See?  GIANT!

#246 Paper Roll "Art" Turtle

Hahahahahahahahahaha!  I grade myself an "A" for the effort I put into this.
I forget where I first saw this idea. , but tonight is the night that recycling goes to the curb so when I saw many easily accesible rolls this evening I thought I'd give it a try.  I think my seaweed hanging down is particularily scary.

#245 Hide and Seek Turtle

I drew a tiny turtle on a gourd today.  I wonder if the kids will notice....  They don't bother with this blog, so they won't see it here.

This bowl isn't really working for me, but it will do for now.

Here is a close up of the little Sharpie turtle.

#244 Cookie Turtle

I baked some cake-mix cookies this evening and tried to shape a couple like turtles.

The shape didn't look too bad raw:

Some of the shape was lost when the cookies spread out during baking.  With the help of two green sprinkles for eyes, I think we can still see the turtle.  At least, I hope I'm ot the only one!

Yummmmmm.....  Butter-Pecan......

#243 Tomaturtle

I brought lots of pears, gourds and tomatoes home from the cottage.  I decided to make a turtle out of some of the tomatoes.  Food Writer markers don't work very well on tomatoes, but I tried to give him eyes!

#242 Cottage Turtle, Finally!

We went to my parents' cottage this weekend.  In the chaos of getting everyone and everything we needed packed on Friday, I completely forgot about my turtle.  I did think of it during the extra-long drive up (It took about four hours and should have only taken about two and a half), but by the time we got there I had forgotten again.  Oh well.  Everyone makes mistakes.
On Saturday, Hubby and I canoed down the river.  We found a turtle!!!!!  Well, actually, we saw two, but I only got a photo of this one.

We started out pretty far away from it.

But then Hubby was able to maneuver us in a lot closer.  This is a very brave turtle.  I didn't have the zoom up very high for this shot.

This was our last trip to the cottage for this year so I am very happy I finally saw some turtles.  :)

#241 Nutty Turtle

Hubby needed an extra pair of hands in his shop tonight.  While I was waiting to be needed, I roamed around looking for something to make a turtle with.  I discovered a little drawer full of nuts, so I borrowed some.
Then I borrowed his camera because I didn't have mine with me!

#240 Beaded Turtle

Mandy from Beads for Brains posted an adorable beaded turtle she found about two weeks ago.  I finally tried it today.  She said that hers took about ten minutes.  I was obviously doing something wrong because mine took about two hours!!!!!  lus mine is rather flat where hers is nicely rounded.   The tutorial (Mandy has it linked in the post of hers that I linked to) is in Russian.  I translated it and never saw any indication as to what to thread the beads on so I used thread.  I think it would have turned out better if I had used wire.  I made a mess of it's head too.  I think I will try again one day using wire.  Hopefully it won't take another two hours!

But it is still kinda cute.  :)

#239 "Charcoal Sketch" Turtle

I found another online picture editor.  This one is called LunaPic.  I was playing with my profile picture.
I chose the 'charcoal' effect.  I really liked the lego effect, but it didn't suit this particular photo very well.
I took the original photo a long time ago.  It is one of my daughter's turtles.

#238 Rubber Band Turtle

We have a bunch of rubber bands in our house.  I thought I'd try to make one by piling up some of the rubber bands.  Sounds easy.  Rubber bands are not easy to corral!  This is the best that I could do.

I labeled it so hopefully you can see what I see.

#237 Attempted Shrinky Turtle

I have done shrink art using styrofoam meat trays with the kids before so when I found this tray with a nifty diamond pattern I thought it would make a great turtle.  Unfortunately for me my turtle stuck to itself and didn't shrink properly.  I flattened it out the best I could while it was still warm.

Here is the turtle before I shrunk it.

Here it is after I tried to salvage it.  Sadly, it also lost all of it's diamond pattern too.

I took a video of it shrinking because I like the way it twists and turns in the oven.  You can see at the end of the video what I had to flatten out.

#235 Etch-A-Turtle

More fun with cameroid.com.  I would have liked this better if it looked a little more like an etch-a-sketch drawing.  But it is still a neat frame.
I always sucked at drawing with one of these.

#234 Turtle Jackpot!

Our local hardware store carries a lot of non-hardware items.  Usually for very cheap prices.  Today I walked by and found turtles!  Tons and tons of turtles!  They may have had a few other animals there too, but who noticed them?
They had four different turtles.  I came home with three.  The one I didn't adopt was just like the little blue one, but a washed-out pink colour.  With an annoying squeaker in it.  Why would they put a squeaker in a turtle?????  Since I was already getting a tutu-wearing, bright pink cutie, I didn't bother with a squeaky not-so-bright pink one.   These guys were a steal.  I think Hubby paid as much for my princess turtle as I paid for all three of these guys!
I am a happy girl!  :)

I'd never wear a hat like this, but it looks awfully cute on a turtle!

Turtle faces.  I just love these stuffed turtles.  I have several.  :)

#233 Survivor Turtle

Tonight is the season premier of the only TV show I watch.  Survivor.  I don't call it "reality TV",  there is no reality there.  It is a game.  A game that is really fun to watch.  I haven't missed a season.
In honour of the 23rd season, I present my Survivor Turtle:

I really need to learn how to use something besides Microsoft Paint, and use it well because clearly, my skills are lacking! Pin It

#232 Mardi Gras Bead Turtle

This is a very innocent Mardi Gras Bead Turtle.
These particular beads were brought to me from New Orleans by children.  Sweet children who, I'm told, were having a blast scooping up as many of these bead necklaces as they could get their little hands on during the many parades they saw.  Their luggage was overweight coming home!  Mom says it is because the kids brought back sooooo many beads.  Hahahaha!
I was the recipient of five necklaces.  I used three of them for this turtle.
The purple necklace is my favourite.  The beads are like teeny little disco balls. Pin It

#231 Another Helpful Turtle

About a month ago I posted my first helpful turtle.  In the comments, Tricia from the Habitual Hands 365 project told me about another cool idea.  She lead me to this post in another blog.  I love  the idea!

Today I finally made my version.
I just cut a little triangle/slit along the turtle's mouth.  The paper sits in there perfectly.  And the turtle doesn't even get the paper wet.  ;)

See?  You slip your little note right in the turtle's mouth.

#230 Pretzel Turtle

My seventeen year old makes delicious homemade pretzels.  Today she made a batch and she let me get in there and shape one of them.

Here is my raw pretzel turtle

Here it is all baked up.

My thirteen year old thought he needed a face so I gave her a purple food writer and told her to give him one.
He was DELICIOUS.

#229 Baby Snapping Turtle

My daughters and I went to the mall today to pick up some library books.
That is all we went for.
When we came out of the library, there was an animal show going on in the mall.  A gentleman was telling a big group of children (and their parents) about spiders, specifically tarantulas, when we joined.  He also talked about snakes, lizards, frogs and turtles.  He showed us a baby snapping turtle and a big red-eared slider and talked a little bit  about them.

Here is the baby snapping turtle.

Both of my girly-girls held a snake too!  They also each got a balloon from a store.  You are never too old for balloons.  It was a good afternoon.  We should have been an hour or less at the mall and we were gone for about two hours!

#226 French Fried Turtle

Playing with my food again.  I was making fries to go with dinner tonight and decided to make a turtle with some potato.  I made a second just in case the first one fell apart.  I took a picture before cooking and another after.  They were delicious.  I didn't share.

#225 Nine-Turtle Stack

So Yertle, the Turtle King, lifted his hand
And Yertle, the Turtle King, gave a command.
He ordered nine turtles to swim to his stone
And, using these turtles, he built a new  throne.
He made each turtle stand on another one's back
And he piled them all up in a nine-turtle stack.
And then Yertle climbed up.  He sat down on the pile.
What a wonderful view!  He could see 'most a mile!

~from Yertle the Turtle by Dr. Seuss

There are nine turtles under my Yertle.  They were balancing just fine until I added my Yertle.  I'm lucky I got this shot!

And my dad sent me this.  He said that he couldn't find a photo of the band The Turtles.  But he did come up with this:

#223 Video Star

I am very excited that one of my turtles has a small cameo in one of the most amazing videos I've ever seen.

I hope you remember A-ha's Take On Me.
As you can see I am still having fun searching the web for nifty webcam effects.  :) Pin It

#221 Sand turtle

My youngest and I went for a bike ride to the pond again today.  As usual, we never saw any turtles.  I was complaining bitterly when my daughter decided to rectify the situation.

Here she is drawing a turtle in the sand for me.  Yes, she has a teal streak in her hair, you aren't imagining things.  It just doesn't look as brilliant as usual in this photo, and it looks more green in this picture too.

Here is the finished product.

Here is a better look at her hair as she feeds the ducks some plain popcorn.

#220 Fruit turtle

My youngest was making fruit salad today and suggested that I use the fruit for my turtle before she cut it up.
Good idea!
We have a huge canteloupe shell, a honeydew melon head, four apple feet (although only two show in this picture) and a pear tail. Pin It
