#279 Candy Turtle

My thirteen year old went trick-or-treating tonight and was kind enough to lend me some of her treats for my turtle.  Sadly, I had to return them when I was done.  She did share some M&M's and a Coffee Crisp with me though, so I am very happy!

#278 What Lurks Beneath the Surface?

My daughters are having a lot of fun decorating for Halloween.  They took a bowl, filled it partway with water and added scary rats and spiders to the bottom of it then added floating candles.  I added a turtle swimming peacefully and unsuspecting on the surface.....
Look out little turtle!!!!!!!

I may never swim again. Pin It

#275 Synchronized Turtles

I picked up a pack of these turtle charms.  I have no idea what I want to do with them, but I couldn't pass up the 4-pack for $1.00.  so I just played with them tonight.

#274 Shell Turtle

Emme from A Butterfly A Day made her butterfly today out of seashells.  It reminded me that I have a turtle made out of seashells.  My husband and I spent our honeymoon at my Gramma's cottage.  While roaming the neighbouring towns we found a craft store called The Turtle Shop (I think.  It may have been The Turtle Store)  Well, we couldn't not  go in with a name like that.  I expected there to be tons of crafty turtle items but there was only one.  And Hubby bought it for me.  That was over 19 years ago and this turtle sits safely in a curio cabinet and not on the open shelves that I keep most of my other turtles on.

Yeah.  I know it is cheesy, but I love it.  :)
Thanks for the reminder Emme.

#273 What's this? What's This??

Jack has never seen such a funny looking little turtle.  Maybe he is wondering if it stole his tie.

Big Jack is a work in progress and as you may have guessed, I haven't made his tie yet.
*Credit goes to my husband who took this photo for me after helping me set it up.  I am outside the frame, holding Jack's arm in place.  :) Pin It

#271 Lotion Turtle

Squeezing out just the right amount of lotion onto the back of my hand is not as easy as I had expected it to be!  I have a little sample of concealer with a small tip, so I used that for my turtle's eyes.

#270 another hiding turtle

I don't really expect the kids to notice this one because I placed it on the back of the kettle.  But who knows?

They never noticed the pears and they are gone now.  The gourds have been moved, so it isn't surprising that they haven't seen that one yet. Pin It

#269 Commencement

Today was my oldest daughter's high school commencement ceremony.
I must brag a little.
She is only seventeen, one of the youngest in her class.  She received her high school diploma today as well as an honours certificate and three awards: two for grade 12 co-operative education (including highest marks) and one for highest marks in grade 12 Food and Nutrition.  As you may guess, I am very  proud of her.  She worked hard for all of her success and deserves it.  She is in her first year of university now.

#268 Movie Night!!!!

Today's late-night post is brought to you by CAPTAIN  Jack Sparrow.
Guess what we watched tonight.
I didn't think I would like this one without (the very cute) Orlando Bloom, but it was still a lot of fun.
I mentioned that I thought Johhny Depp had already found the fountain of youth.  The kids were shocked to learn that Johnny Depp is *gasp* older than Mom!

On a sidenote, I need to make a new "me" turtle.  This one has taken a lot of abuse living in my purse.  It is filthy and falling apart.  :( Pin It

#267 Twisty Turtle

I was inspired by GrubbyGrrrl's twist-tie cat.  Unfortunately, my turtle isn't half as cool as her cat, but I still had fun making it.  Twist tie art is something I doubt I will ever learn to do well.  But, if everything I did was perfect, this would be a really dull blog...  That is my story, and I am sticking to it!

#265 Printing Issues

Hmmmmm.....  The printer doesn't seem to want to work for us tonight.  My "me" turtle is little enough to get up close and personal with the printer, maybe she can figure out the problem.

~sigh~  When in doubt, reboot.
I think that will be what I try first  from now on! Pin It

#261 Jack Skellington Turtle

A friend of my daughter saw an interview with Tim Burton a while ago, where he revealed that he considers October 13 to be Jack Skellington's (from Nightmare Before Christmas) birthday because the first time he ever drew Jack it was on October 13th.  So in honour of the occasion I have made a Jack Skellington turtle.

I tried to echo Jack's face on the face of the turtle.

Happy birthday Jack!!!!!!

#260 Jammie Turtle

I made myself a pair of super-soft fleece pyjama pants today. I've never made anything like this before and although they have their flaws, I am very happy with them.  The front and the back look pretty much identical so I marked the front of the waistband with a little red fleece turtle.
I am going to be soooooo toasty and warm tonight!!

#259 Felt Turtle

Hubby picked up the thickest, sturdiest felt I have ever seen today.  He gave me some to use for my turtle since my original plan for today fell through.   :)
I made kind of a puzzle turtle with it.  It stands up totally on it's own.  No glue or anything. Pin It

#257 Pies!!!!!!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in Canada but  a lot of us had our dinner tonight.  And of course, you can't have Thanksgiving dinner without pie!  We always have two.  A pumpkin pie for me and our youngest, and a lemon meringue pie for the two weirdos in the house who don't like pumpkin pie (the youngest and I usually manage to scam a little piece of that too!!)
So, as you may have guessed, I made two pies today.

I tried poking a turtle into the bottom of the lemon meringue pie crust.  It didn't look half-bad raw, but pretty much disappeared when it was cooked.

We had more filling than crust for the pumpkin so I put the extra filling in two ramekins and placed a little turtle on top made of the leftover pie crust dough.

I'm stuffed.  Pin It

#256 Little Bead Turtle

I have a little butterfly that I beaded years ago stuck to the corner of the bathroom mirror.  Unfortunately, the wire I used doesn't seem to like moisture and it is looking pretty funky.  I decided a while ago that I was going to make a little turtle to replace it.  I made this one today.  I used different wire than the butterfly that is painted as well as a thicker gauge.  That may not have been such a good idea because the turtle didn't pull together as well as it should have.  I used peach in it's shell because our bathroom is peach and I was trying to make the turtle coordinate a little.   I may remake this down the road using gold coloured wire in the correct gauge.  I haven't put it up yet because I want to be a little stealthy about it and see if the kids notice.  They still haven't mentioned the gourd or the pears.

#255 Apple Crisp

This one looked sooooooooooo much better in person.  The photo looks a little icky.  Sorry about that.  That is just wet brown sugar on the apples and on the dish.
I took the "crisp" and made it look like a turtle before baking my apple crisp.  This is only part of the topping.  The plan was to have the turtle in the middle and more topping kind of circling it, but I had more than I thought so the turtle ended up getting buried.

The turtle is facing left.

#254 Bubbly Turtle

I was playing in the sink before washing some dishes.  Getting a shape that looks good is much more challenging than I expected it to be!

I tried to line up the plug at the bottom with where the shell would be.

#253 Hidden in the Pears

I drew five turtles on some of the pears in the bowl.  I used Food Writers so they are still perfectly safe to eat.  The gourd was never noticed, we'll see if these guys are....

I saw this while roaming the internet the other day.  It was titled "Epic Journey".  I thought it was a great picture!

#252 Pin Turtle

I spent today sewing.  I didn't sew any turtles though.  I made my cat a new catnip mouse (which I haven't seen her play with yet!) and I made myself a stuffed Boo.  If you play any "Mario" games you should recognize Boo.  If not, Boo is a "baddie" from the Mario games.
I was sitting at the table after dinner with my 13 year old, finishing sewing the features onto my new toy and I commented that I hadn't done my turtle yet.  My daughter immediately began removing pins from their holder and asked if she could make a temporary one for me with pins.  Who am I to say no to my baby?  I didn't make this turtle today, but it was made for  me with love and I did take the photos.
(I am including photos of the finished Boo as well because the person I got the pattern from says that she "loves seeing other peoples finished works" and this is the only way I can show her.If you'd like to make one for yourself, please go to her blog)

Here is the turtle made of pins.  The "A" on it's shell was totally intentional.

At my suggestion, she made it kind of like a tattoo on Boo's butt.   :)

Here's Boo!  I really like the way it turned out!  The only part of the tutorial I didn't follow properly was attaching the features.  She glues hers.  I sewed mine on.

And if you read this post all the way through......  Thank you! Pin It

#250 Pizza Pocket Turtle

While getting items ready for lunches tomorrow I thought that my daughter's pizza pocket looked kind of like a turtle shell.  I decorated a napkin, put a piece of plastic wrap over it (to keep the marker off the food) and placed the pocket on top.
