#8 Embroidered Turtle

Embroidery is not my forté.

I thought I would jazz my purse up today.  I've got this funky mulitcoloured metallic thread and a plain black purse.  I tried to embroider a turtle onto one of the pocket flaps.  As you can see, I'm not very good at it.  I may try again one day, but I will use a scrap of fabric and if it turns out, then I will attach it to my purse (or wherever I want it).  Until then, we shall see just how long this one lasts.  It actually looks pretty good from a distance.  That is why I am not providing a close up shot!

#7 Turtle planter

Sometimes an idea looks great in my head, but doesn't work out quite as planned in real life.  I have this planter that was a gift many years ago.

The plant that came with it died ages ago thanks to my black thumb.  I saw a cute little fern at the supermarket yesterday and thought it would look good in this planter.

The picture in my head had the little fern trimmed into a perfect turtle-shell-shaped dome.

Well, I am afraid of over-trimming this plant and causing a really early demise, so I quit while I was ahead.  Therefore my end result is not quite what I was going for, but the plant is alive, so all is good.
I intend to try very hard to keep this plant alive.

#6 Wooden Turtle

I had other plans for today's turtle but then my wonderful husband presented me with a turtle that he made for me!  This little cutie is now today's turtle even though I didn't make it.  I did take the photo though!
I'm a lucky girl!!!

#5 Felt Turtle

Todays offering is the turtle that I wanted to make yesterday.  I had to re-learn how to do a blanket stitch in order to make this.  (Thank goodness for online instructions!)  This turtle took about three times longer than I had expected!  I'm glad that I started early.  The whole turtle is about the same size as my hand.

#4 Christmas Turtle

Okay, so it is only day four and I am already copping out and taking a photo of a turtle I already have.  I had big plans to make a cool turtle, but life got in the way and I ran out of time.  Maybe it will get done tomorrow.
This guy was a Christmas present and I wanted to play with my camera, so I chose to use him as my subject.  I'm still amazed by how a background colour can change the look of an object.  I like the blue because I feel like he is swimming and I like the orange because it just looks right to me.

#3 Rose Turtle

Last week I had a beautiful bouquet of off-white sweetheart roses.  Today I had an ugly bouquet of droopy, shrivelling roses.  Before sending them to the composter I decided to try making a turtle out of them!
Here are the results.

It is still sitting on the counter waiting to meet the rest of the family when they get home from work and school.  :)

#2 Mushroomy Turtle

We made pizza for dinner tonight.  I thought that the mushroom had turtle shell potential, so I played with the green peppers a bit to create legs, a tail and a head, added a mushroom shell and a new turtle was born.  Then added to the pizza, so nothing was wasted.  The funny thing is that I don't even like mushrooms and green peppers!

#1 The Journal

In addition to this blog, I plan to keep track of my daily turtles in a journal.  I got myself a composition book, but didn't like the cover.  So I recovered it.  It only makes sense to me that this is project number one.  I have two sticky note tabs in it.  One as a book mark so I can easily find "today", and the other is marking the section of the book where I am listing my ideas so I don't forget them.  I counted.  I have 81 so far.  As I think of ideas, they will probably become my daily turtle, but if I get a few ideas in one day, I will list them here for future reference.  On days I am stuck, I can use my list.  Sounds good in theory.

The high school that I went to had a specialized art program.  Clearly, I was not in this program but I would have thought that something would have rubbed off in the five years that I went to that school!

Oh well.

I still like my journal and it will definitely serve its purpose.

Learning the ropes

I don't understand the blogging world.
My intention is to officially begin this yearlong project tomorrow.  No special reason, tomorrow is just a day on the calendar, I am simply ready to begin.  As long as I can figure out how to post pictures!  So I'm considering todays post to be a test.  I'm using a photo of my daughter's pet turtles that I took in April.

My daughter got these guys (and their habitat) as her birthday present after wanting them for over a year.  She has had them for almost a year and she still loves them!
So it would appear that I know how to post photos!   I guess the fun begins tomorrow

What this blog is all about

After being inspired by Noah Scalin's Skull-A-Day project I decided that I want to do a similar project using turtles as my theme.  This is the place that I will be sharing my daily turtle photos.  I may not post every single day, but I intend to make or photograph a different one every day and post them all.
