#125 Strawberry Turtle

My youngest offered me some of her dessert to make a turtle with.  Strawberries and whipped cream.  Yummy.
Whipped cream is not as easy to use as I had thought it would be!

#123 Eggie Turtle

We have a circle for frying eggs the perfect size and shape to fit in an english muffin or bagel for a breakfast sandwich.  This morning I got to wondering if I could make an egg in a turtle shape.

Using tin foil, I made a shape.  I didn't know how well it would work because it wasn't perfectly flat against my pan.

Then I cracked my egg into my fabulous creation.  Imagine my surprise when only a tiny bit of egg ran under my fancy, custom egg-shaper!

I actually think it turned out quite well!  It was tasty too.  I actually felt a little guilty cutting it up to eat.  I got over it quickly though.

Today we had panzerottis for dinner.  I used some of the sauce to make a little turtle on mine.
(It is facing left, if you can't tell.  I'm not much of a tomato sauce artist!)

#120 RIP iPod

A good portion of my day has been spent trying to repair destroying my oldest daughter's iPod Classic.

:(

About a month ago her beloved iPod quit on her.  I have spent weeks researching iPod repair online and asking questions and pricing parts.  I had an epiphany over the weekend and remembered that we already have a non-working iPod of the exact same type in the house.  Would I be lucky enough and the part that is needed for our daughter's iPod still be a good part in the other one?  It looked good!  So today I took a deep breath and started to take the iPod apart.  No easy task.  I spent about 45 minutes, maybe more like an hour doing it.  I was being super careful and trying not to scratch it too much.  I finally got her iPod apart with what I think was a minimum of mangling, and very carefully unhooked the battery cable.  I removed the bad hard drive and  replaced it with what we think is a good hard drive from her dad's deceased iPod.  I was so proud of myself!  I was going to be my daughter's hero because she really really loves and misses her iPod.  She doesn't have the money to replace it and doesn't want to anyway.  She wants this one

Sorry Sweetheart.  Believe me, my heart was in the right place.

When I went to reattach the battery cable, the unthinkable happened.  The port (?) that the cable goes into came out!  I guess I lifted the little part that secures the cable with a little more enthusiasm than intended.  I managed to break it off completely.

Now I have to do more research.  If I am lucky, I will be able to trade the good part from Dad's iPod with the one I broke.  But I am not holding out much hope.  It doesn't look removable.  Well, I know it can be removed, but you know what I mean.

#119 IT'S WORLD TURTLE DAY!!!

I had no idea that such a day even existed until just a few weeks ago.  World Turtle Day was launched years ago by American Tortoise Rescue (ATR):

"World Turtle Day was launched to increase respect for and knowledge about one of the world's oldest creatures. These gentle animals have been around for about 200 million years, yet they are rapidly disappearing as a result of the live food markets, habitat destruction and the cruel pet trade,"

So in honour of World Turtle Day, I thought I would take a picture of my daughter's turtles, even though the ATR would frown because ours were purchased from a pet store.  I was in there for at least fifteen minutes trying to get a picture of the two of them together.  I wasn't using my flash because I don't want to blind the poor little guys.  I think I could have nailed jello to a tree easier than getting a nice picture of two moving turtles.  I took about forty and got exactly one good picture of them.

118 Cold Turtle

Not "cold" as in a cool temperature, but "cold" as in 'I have a cold'.
I rarely get colds.  This one hit me like a ton of bricks late last night.  So I took some of my supplies and made a turtle.

*sniffle*

Hopefully it will be very short lived and I will be back to normal in the next day or two.

#117 Jack Sparrow and the Sea Turtle

I mean, Captain Jack Sparrow.
Yesterday Hubby and I were playing Lego Pirates of the Caribbean and we stumbled upon a mini game that involves riding a sea turtle!  I thought "I have to use this as tomorrow's turtle".  So this evening I went down to play and get my picture and couldn't remember where the turtle game was!  Luckily I managed to figure it out before midnight.
So here we are.  Captain Jack Sparrow riding a sea turtle.  Both on land and in the water.    :)

#116 Sunflower Seedlings

The sunflower seeds that we planted back in April are growing nicely.  I tried to find the turtles that I had drawn on the eggshells and they are pretty much gone!  I don't know if it was time, moisture or sunshine that made them fade away but now I know that these markers do not leave a permanent stain.
My "me" turtle was checking out the giant plants.

#115 A Shiny New Tag.

Today was a busy day for me.  Part of the busy-ness included taking the dog to the vet for her annual check up.  Her check up included vaccinations which come, this year, with the tag in green and in the shape of a bell.

Here is my "me" turtle checking out the shiny new tag.  :)

Here is my dog getting acquainted with my "me" turtle!
Eeeeeewwww!  Dog goober all over the poor little turtle!

#114 Little Origami Turtles

I got my hands on some pretty paper and made the origami turtle again. This time I made them much smaller because I am hoping to make earrings out of them.  The paper I got is very thin and doesn't hold a crease as nicely as regular paper so my turtles didn't turn out as nice as I had wanted them to.  I'm not sure if practise will help that or if I need a different type of paper.  I may try to seal these with some glaze that I already have and see how that works, but for now I have these two little hot pink (I don't even like the colour green and I am very tired of using it!!!)  origami turtles.  I love the colour and the way that the paper looks so I am going to see what I can do about making these work. Hopefully in a week or so I'll have funky earrings to post!

Clay turtle the second, Part III

Back in April, I started my second attempt at a clay turtle.  Then I decided it didn't look right and tweaked it.   Then I put it aside to dry.  Today I finished painting it.    I have to say, I am quite pleased with how it turned out.  My artistic talent is not that high.  I can usually follow instructions, but when left alone to create something entirely on my own I usually don't do very well, so for me, this is AMAZING!

111 Toasty Turtle

When my girls were really little, I used to make fun toast for them.  If you remember the show TelleTubbies at all, you might remember that they had very cute, round toast that had a happy face on it.  Our breadmachine makes loaves that slice up into round slices, so I would slice that, place pieces of tin foil on it to look like a face and toast it in the toaster oven.  The kids loved it.  (Even though the older one was a little too big for TelleTubbies)   So, remembering those days, I tried to make turtle toast.  My first attempt wasn't so hot.  I'm not sure if it was because the toast cooked unevenly or because the turtle was too big.  Maybe  a little of both.

So I tried again.  This time I made the turtle smaller and centered it in the toaster oven.

Smiley faces were so much easier.

#110 Fuzzy Turtle

I am going to have to re-think my plans for that bone turtle bead.  I tried to get the ingredients for that today and, naturally, the store is out of stock.  Chances are it will be forever too.  So I am back to square one.  That project will take longer than I expected.  But while I was looking, I found these super-cool, super-fuzzy pipe cleaners!  I have never seen any like this before.  Neither has my dog.  I think she was hoping it was a treat for her.

I tried to make a fuzzy turtle.  I have been hoping that I would get better at stuff like this as time passed, but that doesn't appear to be the case.  Again, I have used Picnik to put a face on it so (hopefully) you can see the turtle here.
I give myself an A for the effort.  And for not quitting this whole project when I make something crappy.

#109 Inspired by KISS

Since my poor little turtle remained in my purse during and after last night's concert and has only met the KISS star that lives in this house, I decided to KISSify the turtle!

Now we can pretend that she met the band.  If I knew how to add her to the actual photo, I would have done that instead of just holding the turtle up in front of a picture on the computer screen.  :)

Not #109, but a Turtle-free oopsie.

Blogger was down for maintenance last night, so this post is late.  I goofed yesterday and forgot to get my planned turtle photo!  I could have made something up and cheated, but that would defeat part of the purpose of this exercise.
My daughter's elementary school had their annual Spring Concert last night.  My daughter has been working on her part for about a month and was very excited about her portion of the show.  My plan was to have my little 'Angela turtle' meet the rock band and get a photograph with them.  But life happens and my window of opportunity was pretty small and I completely forgot about the turtle in the two or three minutes that we had the stars together for pictures.
I did get to meet the rockers after the concert and got an awesome shot of them!
Sorry for the goof up. Pin It

#108 Experimental Turtle

Remember that green air dry, marshmallowy 'clay' I used the other day? My oldest described what it feels like.  Have you ever worked with fun foam?  It feels like thick, soft fun foam.  It doesn't dry hard and brittle like I was expecting.  I still think it is very neat stuff.  Today I wondered if I could stick things to it.  So far it looks like you can.  Although I don't think it is totally dry yet.  I made a turtle body and placed a green glass "stone" on it for the shell.  I have a feeling that i will be able to pick the shell/stone right off it tomorrow if i want to.  But I don't want to, so I won't be doing it intentionally!

#107 Bone Turtle Bead

I received a totally amazing gift from a friend this week.  She carved this little turtle herself out of some elk bone she had been given.  It is roughly the size of a penny.   I have a plan for this bead but it is going to take me a while to put my plan into action and I have been dying to share this fabulous little guy.  Hopefully the idea I have in my head for this turtle will work out in real life.  :)

#106 Mallow Turtle

I made today's turtle with some interesting air-dry 'clay' that I have.  The clay has the weight and consistency of a marshmallow.  I am interested to discover what this will feel like when it has dried.  Although I think it may be pretty much dry now because I couldn't smooth out my fingernail marks.  This is neat stuff.  I will be using it again, I'm sure.

I'm not sure which is it's best side.  :)

#105 Mother's Day Turtles

My kids are pretty good about showing appreciation all year long, but I have to admit that I do enjoy Mother's Day.  For some unknown reason, my teenagers decided that they wanted to paint today.  They painted each other ( *sigh*  Apparently blue paint doesn't wash off completely, so my youngest has a blue-tinged hand and my oldest has a blue-tinged handprint on her leg  *sigh* ) and they painted me a sign for Mother's Day to go with my lovely cards and flowers.

See how they included turtles?  My oldest is a little upset that hers ran.
I love that my girls get along with each other.  :)

#104 Burger Bun Turtle

Shhhhh.......
My daughter doesn't know that I was playing with her food.
Crazy kid.
The rest of us had steak for dinner tonight.  My youngest would rather have a burger.  (While my oldest makes up songs about how wonderful steak is)  Normally we don't cater to stuff like that, but we aren't going to waste a perfectly good steak on someone who isn't going to enjoy it so she gets her wish.
While thawing her bun, I saw great turtle potential so I created this masterpiece.

#102 Origami Turtle!!!!!!!!!!

Finally!!!!!!
After watching and following this youtube video I was finally able to create the turtle.  The video is a little different from the instructions that I had printed out.  I am so pleased that I was able to finally make this.  I'm going to practice this and maybe I will be able to make earrings like I had wanted to.  But not today.  I have to find a home for this creation where the cat won't find it and think I made it for her!
I forgot to use my penny.  I think it's shell is about a square inch.

I think a little celebration is in order!

To use Mandy's (from Beads for Brains) phrase:
Origami turtle conquered!

#99 Napkin Turtle

I admit it.  I got lazy today.
While we were in Niagara Falls this weekend, we toyed with the idea of staying one more day.  The main thing that stopped us from staying was the weather.  It was raining Sunday and was calling for more on Monday.  Neither of us saw any point of staying another day if we were just going to spend it in the hotel.  Anyhow, we DID decide that we would go out to dinner one more time.  We were going to go on Sunday, but we just weren't hungry.  Plus our legs were very, very sore from walking (and walking and walking and walking) up and down hills all day Saturday.  So we went out tonight.  A real upscale, classy dinner.
Wings.
Wings means lots of napkins.  They don't even give you napkins where we went.  They have rolls of brown paper towel at the table so you can help yourself to as much or as little as you need.
So I "made" a turtle out of some.

Just in case you can't see it like I can........
I added a face using Picnik.
(ohhhh, I can already hear my husband laughing at me....)

I have to come up with something special for tomorrow.  I still have no idea what to do....  Pin It

#98 Tourist Turtle Part II

Technically this first photo was taken last night.

This morning we had breakfast at Denny's where they have a seasoning I have never seen before.  I immediately thought of Atomic Rose and this spider of hers!  See what 365-ing has done to me?

It's called "Bacon Salt" and the tagline is "Everything should taste like bacon" !!!

Then, very close to Denny's is a neat dinosaur that I wanted a picture of.  Hubby had an idea for a turtle picture that I tried to do, but mine didn't work out.  He took one too and his worked out much better!

(This is Hubby.  My guest photographer for today!)

Hmmmm....  Another new friend?
 ... Maybe not!

Then we came home.  I am thrilled that our one full day at Niagara Falls was beautiful and sunny.  The trip out there was a little rainy and the trip home was rainy!
